Long Version

Christmas Day in Hawaii greeted us with a beautiful sunrise. We got ready and went to church, which was right across the street from our condo. We were a few minutes late, and when we got there, all the seats were full! We all managed to squeeze in, just in time for the Christmas Program. It was lovely. I was amazed to see such a large congregation. The chapel was sort of a separate building, and all the doors were open to the outside, which was a nice change.
After church we went down to the beach, walked barefoot in the sand, listened to the waves crash, and found handfulls of coral.

Our dinner reservation was early, at the Hukilau Lanai (a name that sparked a week of humming a bad song). I had looked on Trip Advisor, and it was rated the best restaurant in Kapaa, so I thought it would be a good choice for our Christmas dinner. And, it was great. A and I had the kahlua turkey with rosemary gravy, purple sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing and mashed potatoes. Mom had the pork roast, and Dad had the New York steak. We were all too full to order dessert, but before they brought our check, they brought each of us a macadamia shortbread and jam sandwich cookie. Yum!

We spent the rest of Christmas night eating pistachios and watching The Christmas Story on cable, the sounds and smells of the ocean filtering through our screen door.
