Here's the deal:

Blueberries are $1 at Sunflower Market right now, until Wednesday. You should go buy some.

Eleven weeks today! I get to go for my second prenatal appointment next week, can you say exited?
Some semblance of reality is starting to set in. We watched a documentary called ”The Business of Being Born” last week. It is totally biased, all about home births and using midwives, but I sort of loved it. And I think it made A feel better about our decision to have a midwife at the hospital. Also I think he's starting to see that the process is more amazing than scary (the movie did make me have a crazy delivery dream... pregnancy dreams are bizarre!).
I'm still feeling great, though still exhausted. I get hungry frequently and have noticed that I'm extra sensitive to feeling sick after over eating, which is good motivation to take it easy at mealtimes. I think my weight gain has subsided, too. Yesterday my total gain since pre-pregnancy was only two pounds, awesome! I did have to go through my clothes and pack away all the things that I already know I won't be able to wear, which was kind of sad. Now I just want to find a few maternity maxi dresses that have sleeves and I'll be totally content!

Last night I watched the American Idol finale, despite not having.watched any of this season. I had some ironing to do, and they sometimes have good musical guests.

Anyway, I have an observation and a theory. First, the ”original dream girl” duet partner made the craziest faces ever. When they first showed her close up, I seriously thought it was a joke. That being said, that duet was amazing.

Okay, now for the theory. No matter how good the female contestant is, she will never win. This is because the viewers and voters of American Idol are women, and they will always vote for the hunky male contestant. Simple as that. Too bad, because based on last night's performance, I think the girl should have won!

wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen

That's me, today, in my white button up shirt that felt just fine this morning, before I'd eaten and while standing up. Now I think I might bust some buttons. Yikes!

happy trails

Lately my favorite snack is trail mix, of my own invention.

Here's what is in it:

One handful raw almonds.
One tablespoon chocolate covered sunflower seeds.
Two handfuls of rasins.
Two handfuls corn Chex.

love it or hate it?

So I read a discussion board for December moms and babies. A question recently came up, asking moms if they are loving or hating being pregnant. There are two extreme answers so far: either women hate it because they can't drink wine, or they are so sick, or they are too exhausted; or they love it because they love the bonds you get with your baby, or essentially they love the outcome. Most of the latter are not first time moms, so they know what the payout is.
I have to say, I don't love or hate it yet. I'm not sick. I don't work on my feet, and don't have other kids to chase. Yeah, I'm tired, sometimes dangerously so (hello, freeway). Yeah, sometimes my bum and leg hurt. Yeah, I have to pee all the time. But really I'm okay. It hasn't altered my life too much yet. The main thing I'm sad about is not getting a Disney trip this year, breaking my five year streak.
That being said, I am impatiently excited. I can't wait for another ultrasound. I can't wait to find out what this lil' peanut is. I can't wait to feel him or her move. I can't wait to see their little face and kiss their cheeks. Really, I can't wait. So I think because of that, I'm going to say I'm more loving pregnancy than hating it. At least for now.

Ten Tommorow!

It's official. Tomorrow I will be one-quarter of the way done with this pregnancy. Crazy! But so exciting. I'll likely tell my work in two weeks, and go on for my second appointment, which is also exciting.
I'm happy to report that I continue to be morning sickness free, with the exception of a few moments here and there of slight stomach uneasiness. I also continue to be tired all the time, and try to sneak in naps wherever and whenever I can. Weight gain has thankfully subsided, and even gone down a bit to a more healthy range. This morning I weighed in two pounds less! I don't want to lose weight while pregnant, I just want to stay healthy, okay?
In other news, we went to see ” What To Expect When You're Expecting” on Friday. I think it pained Mr. Nielsen, but I loved it! Not that it was particularly funny or good, but I enjoyed it because I'm experiencing pregnancy right now. And the Ethiopian adoption totally made me cry. It was very touching.
Oh, and funny story. I told my four-year-old nephew I was so tired because there is a baby in my tummy, and he decided to tell his preschool teacher who happens to live across the street from me and is my visiting teacher!  For now I don't mind a long as she doesn't put it on the internet or tell the whole neighborhood, which she won't. It's just funny: of all the things running through his mind he decided to day that!

weekend getaway

breakfast at the eating establishment. also note: haircut.
We had a fantastic weekend. My parents were kind enough to reserve some condos in Park City for their children to use, right on Main Street. We headed up Friday, and invited A's sister and her family to come up for Café Rio and swimming. Saturday morning we headed out to Main Street to find some breakfast, and it was empty! We saw maybe free other people, and none of the businesses were open. Finally after walking almost to the top of the street, we found an open restaurant! The Eating Establishment was open, and we drank nearly ten dollars worth of fresh OJ (yikes!).

After breakfast we went to the outlets and scored some great deals at the Gap outlet, and then we headed home.

Saturday evening we went to the movies, "What To Expect When You're Expecting".  Let me just say that true love is a husband that sits through a movie that he really doesn't like. Thanks, babe. You're the best. And Cameron Diaz wasn't even that bad. And lets go to Ethiopia and adopt a baby, okay?

Sunday I had the treat of going to relief society. After church we went back to Park City for a barbeque with three of my five siblings, poolside. I made burgers, which was scary, and the only thing I forgot was ketchup. The weather, company, and food was all excellent.

We got home, took a little nap, and went to A's sister's house for backyard lounging and ice cream. We didn't see the eclipse because it was pretty cloudy, but we did enjoy the evening. After that we played Ticket to Ride Switzerland, and I lost, but still had lots of fun.

All in all, a great weekend. How was yours?

number nine

I'm only nine weeks, and already I have sciatic pain and swollen hands. Dang.

I'm the Worst.

I promised myself I'd be one of those people that takes a picture every week to document my expanding belly. Yeah, but not so much. I'm the worst.
I did go to my first doctor appointment last Friday. Nothing too exiting, I'm going to a midwife at the hospital by my house. So far I like her a  lot. I did have a bad blood drawing experience. Long story short, getting eight vials of blood from my teeny tiny veins did not go very well. My next appointment is in four weeks, and will hopefully be more eventful. Oh, and my only official ultrasound will be at twenty weeks, so we'll know what this baby is at the very end of July!
Symptoms are pretty stable. Still really bloated. I can't imagine what a real bump will look like, because I already feel like I'm obviously showing. I'm also tired all the time, and I get really hungry pretty frequently. Nausea is mostly gone, though sometimes I am surprised with it, like this morning as I got ready. Salty fried foods are also most appealing, and I've started waking up around four a.m. with a desperate need for a bathroom trip. By that point its almost time to get up anyways so I usually hold it which I know is bad! I need to set a middle-of-the-night alarm for a bathroom break... I have a feeling it is only going to get worse!

Sometimes I think people at work forget that I am the manager's assistant, not theirs.* And sometimes I forget how to say no.
*Please respect my time, do not ask me to do things that you should be doing yourself or having you're staff do, even if I'm not particularly swamped at the moment. That's not the point.

symptoms update.

Exhaustion, frequent bathroom stops, snug clothes, weird sleeping, heartburn after dinner, and randomly emotional.

A story on the radio may have made me cry yesterday. It was about a lady pregnant with her second daughter, and so excited for the two girls to be best friends. When the baby was born, they found she had Downs Syndrome. The mom described how her hopes for the girls were shattered, and then reformed. It was a beautiful story. Also episodes of How I Met YourMother, about Barney and his mom, and about Marshall and Lily trying to conceive. Thankfully my emotional moments have been private, not aimed at A or occurring at work!

Just realized that baby's due date is exactly one week before Christmas day. Yikes!

reality check!

The good kind. There's really a real baby in there. It has a little heartbeat. And it measured today at 7 weeks and 2 days, estimated time of arrival is December 18, 2012. Turns out I was about six days off in my own calculations, but it's okay. We're still pretty darn excited!

Now let's talk more symptoms. My guts are all sorts of messed up. I won't go into detail here because that would be too much information. And I've gained like 5-6 pounds, and I have yet to find some good maternity pants. It is the height of allergy season now, and I'm pretty miserable. I haven't been taking anything to manage allergies and asthma, with the exception of the benadryl I took last night. I'm just excited for all the pollen to calm down so I will feel better, and I'm excited to to meet with my real doctor next Friday. just one more week!

two favorites

Lately I have three favorite breakfasts.

Favorite number one: wheat toast, almond butter, fresh blueberries, and chia seeds (you can also sub sliced strawberries or bananas)

Favorite number two: wheat bread, crunchy peanut butter, whole banana, and chia seeds (hotdog style)

Favorite number three: plain greek yogurt, very ripe sliced strawberries, agave, flax plus granola

I had number three this morning. Yummmm. What are your favorites?
