Nineteen Weeks

Has it really been another week? Boy, time sure flies.

Evie is hilarious.  Sometimes mid-meal she stops, looks up at me, and smiles and talks. She wants to eat everyone's fingers, hands, arms, noses, shoulders, etc. She laughs. She loves having conversations, her end is usually just smiling and occasional exclamations. She plays with toys now. If i give her one in the car, I listen to rattles and crinkles coming from the backseat while I drive.

As of today, she naps. I discovered that loud white noise helps her go to sleep on her own. Like the vacuum. In her room. She had three crib naps, I got loads done, it was glorious.

She wears accessories without complaint,  like headbands,  sunglasses, and hats. It is adorable. I still look at her with amazement, and think she's just about the cutest thing ever. Oh but she pulls out my hair. I need a cut, desperately.

Four Months, One Week

I imagine that holding a sleeping baby, cuddling their soft cheeks, and breathing in their sweet baby perfume is as close as I'll ever get to being drunk. It is deliciously intoxicating.

Evie is now eating food. By eating,  I mean mostly spitting it out. I didn't have a strong opinion either way about only nursing until six months, or whatever. Her pediatrician said her head strength and control was good enough to start eating, so we are giving it a try. I blended up some uncooked brown rice to make my own rice cereal. She didn't love it, even mixed with some breast milk. Next day we tried some mashed pear, also didn't love that. Then finally some rice cereal with banana mashed in. Success! Then, mashed butternut squash. Slightly less successful. But, I don't really care how much she actually gets down, since I'm still nursing her. For now it is just to learn how to eat and swallow.

Oh, and at the 4 month check Evie weighed 14.5 pounds,  quite the chunk!  Her head is in the 90th percentile, and weight and height are like 70th and 80th.

She laughs now, when you give her raspberries on her tummy or when her bearded relatives (dad and grandpa) growl and rub their beards on her tummy. She has some little sunglasses, and doesn't complain at all when o put them on her. She hates the carseat but almost always falls asleep in it. She's getting pretty good at grabbing things, like toys, glasses, jewelry, hair, shirts, dishes on the table, and anything in front of her. It can be problematic.

Seventeen weeks.

So, Evie is 17 weeks today,  but Wednesday is the 17th, so sometime between now and then she'll be four months old.

When she was two months, we got together with some other moms and babies, one born in October, one in November. I remember thinking they looked so much bigger than her. Now, seeing some other baby friends born in January and March,  Evie looks like a giant! She has grown so much this past month, it amazes me.

Evie now laughs,  mostly when you tickle her tummy. She also will carry on a spit conversation (blowing raspberries back and forth). She is interested in toys, and will reach out for them and try to maneuver them into her mouth. She sits in a little bumbo chair,  but can't really sit up on her own. I've trained her to be a bad napper in the day,  wanting to be held or simply refusing to sleep.  Fortunately she'll usually conk out if I take her for a walk or out in the car.

Sometimes I look at this little girl and almost can't contain my emotions. We love her so much and think she is just about the cutest thing ever.

Sixteen Weeks

Evie is a little owl this week. She has started hooting, and it is the cutest thing. She is generally a lot more vocal, and smiley. She's happy being held by just about anyone these days,  as long as they hold her so that she is facing out. She sleeps from nine or ten until five or six, usually.

Will this adoration that I feel for her fade as she grows up? Because it has only grownin me, so far. She's just amazing.

Fifteen Weeks

Well, Evie is a giant! She has nearly doubled her birth weight, and we love her chubby legs and soft body.

We blessed her on Easter Sunday,  and were happy to have a lot of family there for the event. She spit up all over the blessing dress during the opening song, and cried during the blessing until Grandpa Nelson put his finger in her mouth.

Evie is becoming more and more alert and aware. When I read to her, she reaches out and touches the pages,  which is especially cute with the touch-and-feel book.

She is still very drooly, and tries to get everything into her mouth. We've had two evenings where she has to go shirtless, because her onesie Israel just soaked with drool!

Even as another week goes by, we can't stop talking about how cute this girl is. We love her so much!
