Overlooking Taro farms.
The haggard travelers!
Well, we're home! Happy New Year! I'm going to do a series of posts, covering our trip day-by-day.
Short Version
Day 01: Lihue & Kapaa
Wore: jersey tunic, leggings, TOMS, pashmina (not pictured)
Dined: House of Noodles, wouldn't go there again
Activities: flying, shopping in Kapaa, driving along Kuhio highway, enjoying cable TV, staying awake
Long Version
Day one, we left SLC around 5:30 am, and arrived in Lihue, Kauai around noon. The minute they opened the doors on the plane, I was soaking in the deliciously warm and humid air. It wasn't painfully humid, just enough to make your skin feel fantastic.
We picked up our rental car, stopped by Costco in Lihue for some groceries, and headed for Kapaa to our condo at Pono Kai. Turns out we couldn't check in till four, so we parked and walked around the charming downtown in Kapaa.
There were so many neat shops! Including one called Orchid Alley. It was so cool. We also had lunch at House of Noodles. A and I shared the "healthy bean glass noodles." They were weird. I didn't love it, and didn't think it was a particularly good value. Definitely not picture-worthy.
We then drove along the coast on Kuhio highway. We stopped at the overlook pictured above. It was spectacularly beautiful. Everything was so green and lush, a welcome break from the gray and brown of SLC.
When we could finally check into our condo, we settled down, admired at our ocean view, and struggled to stay awake until 9:00 pm (it gets really dark around 7:00 pm).
Stay tuned for day 02!
